was founded during 1913 in Auburn, N.Y. by Irwin
J. Smith, a chemist, and Harry B. Smith, a textile
dyer. Operations were started in Albany, N.Y.
in 1914 to provide bleaching agents, dyes and
industrial chemicals to the textile industry.
Our Broadway office, laboratory and packaging
plant was constructed in 1923 and expanded in
1950 as the demand for our unique blend of technical
service and industrial chemicals increased.
Various
U.S. and foreign patents on the use of peroxygen
and hypochlorite compounds for cellulose bleaching
became the foundation for our growth in related
industrial areas. Diversification from a specialty
manufacturer to contract formulator and distributor
of industrial and water treatment chemicals
necessitated the addition of our Bridge Street
plant in 1965 with its bulk and rail terminal
expansion completed in 1985
Our
ownership, management and employees are dedicated
to always providing the reliable quality and
service our customers have expected since the
shipment of our first order in 1914.
